Part of the Scaffolding series:
This collection focuses on the concept of scaffolding, both in the structural and the developmental sense. Scaffolding is supportive but not determinate. It doesn’t define, rather it provides a framework which offers many perspectives. I am interested in what holds us up: as an individual, as a community, and in our surroundings.
In biology an inflorescence is a cluster of flowers that grows off of one single stem. I am fascinated by this. Individual buds, all living together, supported by a main stem (a peduncle, which is another incredible word). In this painting, I wanted to paint the interaction between each of the baby buds; the lifecycle of the flower.
The movement
The blossoming
All the days
And the return to the earth
